A friend of mine wants to store his motorcycle in my garage for the winter. He’s offered to pay me so what’s a reasonable fee to ask? I’m not looking to make money off the guy, but a few extra bones to go toward the new-bike fund would be nice.
CBX for your time

How much does it cost to get Andreas Georgeades to build a V12? That much.

someone at my university has a silver one. had NO idea what it was at first

depends on the storage conditions.
id say...20 a month?

$30/mo I would think is reasonable. A storage unit would cost more and your garage would be a more comfortable place to store it.
On the other hand, if he is your friend, why not store it for free? Does it inconvenience you in any way or does it just take up space?

That’s a bad ass bike.
ETA: Silver would mean it’s a 2004 IIRC.

Let’s say your garage burn down, who will be responsible for the bike ?

I think $25 a month is a fair price.

Small storage lockers around here are ~50 bucks a month. You won't be providing 24 hour key card access and cameras so um...20$s a month?

You for jynxing it.

I’ve stored my friends bike for free for two years. So you could do that. Or charge him 200 and a case of beer.

The storage insurance the bike owner should have on it?

$10/month
Should be 5 months or so. $50 should cover it.
Make sure he puts stabilizer in it & brings a bike cover.
Edit: apparently I’m cheap. After reading other comments. I based my price off of trailer lots that are $30/month. Depending on your garage space available I still stand by $10 to be reasonable, for a friend yah know.

Heated garage? Battery on a trickle charger?
I would say $20 to $30 a month, depending on that.

If he canceled insurance, no one. A buddy had a garage fire, anything on & in the jeep was not covered.

Or you can do what my brother did, sign the title over.

HAHAHAHA. Storage insurance...
(Guy who owns a bunch of crappy motorcycles.)

just takes up space. I have plenty of projects to work on over the winter so it would be annoying if it was in the way, but I can probably get it in there so its largely out of the way.

he’s been trying to sell me the bike for a while now. Hmmm.....maybe this is part of his plan

It's going to be different when you get to look at it all the time, then think about riding it.

Clean and dry, but not heated. So we ended up at $100 for the winter

Yeah if that was the bike that I was storing, it might have a few extra miles on it upon return....

Well he’d be out a bike which is sad, but I’d be more worried about my stuff in the garage which includes my bike, my MR2, a mountain bike and a metric shit-ton of tools.
Actually I’m not really sure how that would work out if something terrible like that happened. Maybe its covered by my renter’s insurance or whatever insurance he already has on the bike.

So first thing would be to clear this out.
You don’t want your “friend” to sue you.

Very good point. We don't want to have an Oppo episode of Judge Judy.
